What’s Coming Up With Cloud Computing in 2012

Many would say that cloud computing is the way of the future. Here is what some experts will predict will happen in the cloud industry in 2012.

Cloud computing is more than just a remote access method, but rather can allow an entire business to change the way they handle their IT operations. Essentially, it allows programs to be run and files to be stored on a group of remote servers. There are many advantages to this and this is why cloud computing is increasingly being adopted by plenty of software developers and hardware companies. Here is what’s predicted for the cloud in 2012:

ñ  More IT companies will be providing cloud related services

Hardware vendors such as Hewlett Packard have already started developing new products in the hopes of establishing a strong market share when it comes to cloud computing. Service providers, such as data centers that provide cloud servers for rent have also grown and new entrants are expected to make their appearance in 2012. Software providers, such as those that make cloud based remote control software are also expected to grow. This will be either existing companies focusing more of their development efforts on the cloud, plus completely new entrants to the market.

ñ  An increased amount of software and services will be based on the cloud

Suites of cloud based programs such as Google Apps are expected to grow in popularity this year. Software that will be accessible from any device and any platform is expected to make a jump in popularity. Remote storage services like Microsoft’s SkyDrive are expected to become more popular and have better functionality. Companies are also experimenting with better cloud based gaming. Even though many games, such as some of the Facebook games now run on the cloud, developers are working hard on a solution that will allow complex 3D games to be played on the cloud as well. All of that has the potential to change how we see software in general.

ñ  Better reliability, security and quality are expected

There are a lot of cloud based solutions on the market right now, but before they can be adopted on a large scale, the clients are demanding that these solutions work very well and don’t contain any possible security vulnerabilities that can be exploited. Software and hardware developers, as well as service providers are now working hard to improve their line-up of cloud based offerings in order to please as many new clients as possible. It is expected that those who provide reasonably priced, high quality and secure solutions for the cloud are going to come out on top, possibly acquiring some of their competitors during the whole process.
